These countries offer affordable skiing in beautiful, uncrowded mountain settings — a stark contrast to the packed resorts of the Alps. While the infrastructure is still developing, the experience of skiing in the Albanian and Kosovar mountains is authentic and adventurous.

Dardhë, Korçë Region (Albania)

Dardhë is Albania's most established ski area, located 25 km east of Korçë at an elevation of 1,350 meters. The village is set in a pine forest with traditional stone houses and a cozy mountain atmosphere.

• Ski area: Bigëll ski center (3 km from Dardhë), with 2 ski lifts and several runs suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers.
